How Tony Labrusca landed distinctive acting roles

Newbie actor Tony Labrusca revealed how he landed the roles in “ML,” “Double Twisting Double Back” and his upcoming film with Angel Aquino “Glorious.”

“I took these roles unang una kase wala naman akong choice, yun lang po yung meron na nagoffer sa akin,” Labsruca said on Thursday during the “Glorious” press conference at ABS-CBN’s ELJ Building in Quezon City.

More than not having other choices, Labrusca landed in these roles because after reading the scripts and knowing who the directors and casts were, he thought it had “substance.”

“I can go sa formula way. I came from Boyband and I came from La Luna [Sangre] so pwede akong magpa-‘tweetums’ or whatever. Or I was thinking I can do my passion, I can play these cool roles that I’ve always wanted to play,” he said.

Labrusca auditioned for the ABS-CBN reality show “Pinoy Boyband Superstar,” but didn’t win the competition.

He took a second shot at stardom when he bagged the third-wheel role as werewolf in Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla’s fantasy series “La Luna Sangre.”

“At first after La Luna, na-excite ako sa idea na ‘Wow baka magkaroon ako ng love team tapos sisikat din aka tulad ng Kathryn and Daniel’ diba,” he recounted.

Being a newbie in the industry, Labrusca thought “Here in the Philippines, they always say you get a love team then you become really famous,” but he never knew there is another way to make a name.

“Kaya when people ask, it’s not that I chose these roles, these roles really chose me,” he said.

He upped his acting career with “ML,” a film about Martial Law directed by Benedict Mique and starring Eddie Garcia.

The other was “Double Twisting Double Back,” a recent thriller film and Cinema One Originals entry directed by Joseph Abello.

His upcoming film with Aquino “Glorious” will stream on the iWant app and on TFC Online (TFC.tv) starting November 17. /muf
