Upcoming film “Glorious” top-billed by Angel Aquino and Tony Labrusca aims to break the stigma against wide age gaps in relationships.
Written and directed by Concepcion Macatuno, the film tells the story of Glory, played by Aquino who falls in love with Niko, played by Labrusca, a guy 30 years her junior.
The trailer released on Sunday became viral, not only for the sexy scenes that enticed netizens, but also for the debate stirred online about age gap in relationships.
“When you get to a certain point in your life you wanna be with somebody and you don’t really care how old they are. You just wanna be loved and you just wanna love back,” Labrusca said during the film’s press conference at ABS-CBN’s ELJ Building in Quezon City.
This kind of relationship is considered “taboo” and it is something that people do not want to talk about given the Philippines’ “conservative” tendencies.
“When we talk about it, we get a little uncomfortable but when we look around the rest of the world, this is something that people do,” the 23-year-old actor added.
Aquino echoed Labrusco’s sentiment, saying the film can be a “gauge” where people may start seeing this issue differently, adding that: “Maybe they’ll start to accept it.”
“Sana palayain natin ‘yung mga sarili natin,” Aquino said. “I am in love with this person, I love him very much, and if he genuinely loves you then he wouldn’t feel ashamed holding your hand in public, kissing you maybe now and then in public kasi pagmamahal naman talaga.”
The director of the film explained that she wanted to put this story out there so “we’ll all learn how to just let go and allow ourselves that experience.”
“Glorious” is Dreamscape Digital’s first offering, made exclusively for the online streaming service iWant and TFC Online (TFC.tv) starting November 17. /kga
