Two of Marvel’s Netflix shows were canceled seven days apart. “Iron Fist,” starring Finn Jones, and “Luke Cage,” starring Mike Colter, lasted two seasons each.

“While the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal ‘Iron Fist’ will live on,” according to a statement by the company.

A week later, a Netflix and Marvel joint statement was released about the end of “Luke Cage.” “Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought ‘Harlem’s Hero’ to life for the past two seasons,” it said.

The shows’ stars responded to the axing in their respective Instagram pages.

“I have an enormous amount of love and respect for everyone involved with the last two seasons of this show,” said Jones in a caption for his photo as the superhero. “Defending the greatest city in the world amongst the most talented and warmest people has been a privilege and a joy.”

Colter, meanwhile, posted a photo of himself with his newborn child. “‘Luke Cage’ represented something more than just entertainment. [It] added to our social commentary and made viewers think by challenging the norm and putting out a character that reflected the everyday hero, one with flaws, strengths and everything in between. I am forever grateful to Marvel and Netflix for letting me portray such a prolific character, and thank the amazing fans,” the actor said.

“As one door closes, another has opened, with the birth of my second daughter. Born this week. A lot of great memories. Time to make more. Always forward, forward always,” Colter added.

Some fans are clamoring for a team-up show, “Heroes for Hire,” based on the shared title of Iron Fist and Luke Cage’s comic book predecessors. The live-action characters formed a group with other heroes, Daredevil and Jessica Jones, in Netflix’s 2017 show “The Defenders.”—OLIVER PULUMBARIT
