Selma Blair recently took to Instagram to share that she is suffering from multiple sclerosis (MS), a disease involving the brain and spinal cord, which may lead to vision or speech impairment and loss of muscle coordination.

On the set of her new Netflix show, “Another Life,” she related being assisted by the costume designer. “She carefully gets my legs in my pants, pulls my tops over my head, buttons my coats and offers her shoulder to steady myself,” Blair said in a caption of her selfie. “By the grace of the Lord… willpower and the understanding producers at Netflix, I have a wonderful job. I am disabled. I fall, sometimes. I drop things. My memory is foggy. And my left side is asking for directions from a broken GPS. But we are doing it.”

She recalled, “Since my diagnosis [at 10:30    p.m.] on Aug. 16, I have had love and support from my friends.” Blair then thanked her actor friends, including Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jaime King.

Give hope

“I hope to give hope to others. And even to myself,” said the actress, who had pivotal roles in films like “Cruel Intentions” and “Hellboy.” “I don’t have answers. But I want my life to be full, somehow. I want to play with my son again… walk down the street and ride my horse. I have MS, and I am OK. But if you see me, dropping crap all over the street, feel free to help me pick it up.”

Blair thinks that she’s had the incurable illness for at least 15 years. But, she admitted, “I am relieved to at least know.”—OLIVER PULUMBARIT
