Team “Ang Larawan” welcomes its third National Artist, composer Ryan Cayabyab. Loy Arcenas’ 2017 film was based on National Artist for Theater Rolando Tinio’s musical, which was in turn adapted from a play by National Artist for Literature Nick Joaquin.

Now, Mr. C, as the maestro is known in the biz, completes the troika.

“Larawan” producer-actress Celeste Legaspi raved about his longtime friend and frequent collaborator’s latest achievement: “I am very proud and happy for Ryan. I always knew he would be a National Artist [for Music] because, for more than 40 years, he has been dedicated to our music and the development of our young artists.”

Excellent performances

Celeste, who is the daughter of National Artist for Visual Arts Cesar Legaspi, told the Inquirer: “It has been my honor to work with Ryan since the 1970s. Every performance we did together was memorable and excellent. When you are with Ryan you just always do your best!”

Mr. C’s acclaimed musicals include “Magnificat,” “Alikabok” and “Katy!”   —BAYANI SAN DIEGO JR.
