How Derrick and Sanya ‘hurdled’ their intimate scenes

Derrick Monasterio and Sanya Lopez

She has done her homework,” said Derrick Monasterio of Sanya Lopez, who despite having had no experience with romantic love, “performed well” in their intimate scenes in Connie Macatuno’s erotic film, “Wild and Free.”

“When I first talked to Sanya about those scenes, I asked her, ‘Are you ready for them?’ She challenged me by saying, ‘Are you ready for it?’ That’s when I realized that she’s game,” Derrick told the Inquirer. “I liked it that I was able to guide her throughout the shoot. In real life, I like to be the one who initiates for things to happen. I want to be the aggressive one.”

When the director says ‘Cut!’ while shooting a love scene, how does he manage to snap out if it? Derrick confessed: “As an actor, you’re never really into it. You have a lot of things to consider, like camera angles, your costar and all the people watching. Doing love scenes is actually uncomfortable.”

However, Derrick said that if he would be asked what his favorite scene with Sanya was, “it would have to be when our characters make love for the first time. You see two people feeling awkward and still exploring each other. The pace is slower and the room, darker. We were by the beach in La Union.”

The film is “more intense” than “Fifty Shades of Grey,” swore Derrick.

“I don’t think my younger brother would be able to take this. I myself got shocked when I was dubbing for it. Even the technician at the dubbing booth would sometimes close his eyes in reaction to what he saw,” he added. “In the end, it’s all about love.”

Asked whether or not Derrick fell for Sanya after having worked closely with her, the actor said: “What’s good about us is that when filming stops, we can switch back to being friends. We don’t feel uncomfortable around each other at all.”

Derrick also said he wouldn’t mind being involved with someone like Sanya, who confessed to being an NBSB (no boyfriend since birth).
