BARREDO. Directs “Romeo and Juliet.”
The Philippine Ballet Theater (PBT) is the country’s pioneering ballet organization, founded 43 years ago by Tita Radaic, Eddie Elejar and Julie Borromeo. Its mission is to present classical dance to Filipino audiences and help develop their appreciation for ballet.
Recently, Dr. Raul Sunico, president of CCP, inducted PBT’s 2011 board members and trustees, headed by Chingbee Kalaw (chair) and Triccie Sison (vice chair). Other officers: Cha-Cha Camacho, president; Sylvia Lichauco de Leon, vice president; Mars Lambino, secretary; Marichu Nepomuceno, treasurer, and lawyer Randy Perez Jr., legal counsel.
Exciting year
Camacho says, “This is an exciting year for PBT. We will be staging three full-length productions at CCP.” “Romeo and Juliet,” will be shown on July 7-10, directed by prima ballerina Maniya Barredo. On September 15-18 comes “Cinderella,” followed by season-ender, “Nutcracker Ballet Suite,” on November 17-20.
The company is steadfast in its mission. Camacho explains, “We are stepping up our outreach programs, with the hope of reaching a wider audience, as well as discovering talented but untapped dancers around the country.”
