“I’m sure you’ll be a kickass Darna,” Director Erik Matti said of Liza Soberano, lead actress of upcoming movie “Darna.”
Matti made this remark in an Instagram post on Thursday, October 4, where he thanked Soberano for her “dedication and commitment.” In the same post, Matti confirmed his resignation as director of the movie’s reboot.
“It’s been 5 years and how I wish I could have finished it after all the hard work that went into preparing and putting it together. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out ideally for both parties,” he said.

The “Buy Bust” director said Darna was personal to him because it was his “first project in the industry.”
“Darna is personal to me. My first project in the industry was as continuity supervisor for Peque Gallaga’s Darna with Anjanette Abayari. And doing this modern reboot of the classic superhero, I feel that I have come full circle in this industry,” Matti added.
He then thanked his staff and crew who helped him bring “a uniquely modern take of our Filipino superhero” to life.
Matti also wished Star Cinema, ABS-CBN, and the next director all the best.
Darna’s reboot was first announced in 2014 by Star Cinema with Matti as director. /kga
