Thanks to Mocha Uson, Angel Locsin is a trending topic these days

“It’s surprising how I always become a trending topic these days,” said Angel Locsin.

The actress was referring to the clip of her catfight with the controversial Mocha Uson in the movie “Four Sisters and a Wedding,” which would often go viral whenever the Presidential Communications Operations Office assistant secretary finds herself in hot water.

“When I go viral, I would check and discover that, yes, may nangyari na naman pala [kay Mocha],” Angel told reporters during the launch of the “Avon Fashions x Angel Locsin” campaign, which features three bags that the actress designed herself.

In the movie scene, Angel grabbed Mocha by the hair and dragged her out of a bar and on to the street for stealing her boyfriend.

Asked whether she remained on good terms with Mocha even after shooting the scene, Angel said: “I do hope we’re OK. When we shot that, she was super nice. I even approached her to ask how she was. I think she got hurt slightly, but didn’t complain.”

The actress added: “It’s just funny how that particular scene would be used whenever people talk about her.”

Another issue that continues to make Angel a “trending topic” is the latest remake of Mars Ravelo’s “Darna,” which will feature Liza Soberano in the titular role.

People could not seem to get over Angel’s performance as the Filipino heroine in 2005 that some of them still wish she would do the remake.

“I’m touched that people still call me Darna—that’s very much part of my history as an actor,” she said. “But I’ve given the role to Liza wholeheartedly. She’s my first choice to do it, and I know she will do it well. She is blessed that she now has a lot of references, and that technology in filmmaking has greatly improved.”

Angel said she thought Anne Curtis would be ideal to play the villainess Valentina. “But they have already cast someone. I like Anne; I just don’t know if she would be OK with it. It  depends on the story,” she added.

Doing Darna has made a huge impact on her career, and Angel was quick to acknowledge it.

She said: “In terms of personality, with Darna being a defender of the weak and the abused, someone who gives them hope, I became more conscious of what’s going on around me. I now do the best I could to help others.”

Angel’s trip to war-torn Marawi City last year also hogged the headlines.

“This is why I try to downplay it. I’d rather not talk about what I’m doing for the community. Let’s just say that my mom is an adopted Muslim, so they’re really close to her heart—and to mine,” Angel told the Inquirer.

She claimed she hadn’t visited the area lately, “because the military still wouldn’t allow it. The situation there is not yet OK, so I just meet the people I communicate with [who are based] there somewhere else.”

Angel is currently busy on the upcoming action-adventure teleserye, “The General’s Daughter.”

The show, which also features Paulo Avelino and JC de Vera, will reportedly replace the Coco Martin starrer “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano,” which recently celebrated its third year.

“I cannot verify that rumor,” declared Angel. “That show has a huge following—as in malupit!”
