Robin Padilla challenges Sen. Trillanes: ‘Wag kang magtago sa saya ng Senado!’

Robin Padilla had some strong words for Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV moments after Trillanes was ordered arrested by President Rodrigo Duterte: “Lumabas ka! Wag kang magtago sa saya ng Senado!” (Get out! Don’t hide under the skirt of the Senate!)

This comes after President Duterte signed Proclamation 572 which revoked the amnesty granted to Trillanes given by former President Benigno Aquino III. He also ordered the police and military “to employ all lawful means to apprehend” the senator.

In his Facebook live video today, Sept. 4, Padilla can be seen seated in a vehicle while apparently outside the Senate Building. He declared, “Dito po sa loob ay nagtatago ang isang senador na mismong hindi ho sumusunod sa batas.

(Hiding inside [this building] is a senator who himself does not abide by the law.)

Kami mga ordinaryong tao, kapag may kaso, wala kaming magawa,” the actor said. “Kapag sinabi ng pulis na kailangan namin sumama sa kanila, sumasama kami.

(Ordinary citizens like us cannot do anything when we have cases. When police officers say that we have to go with them, we do.)

And when he heard that Trillanes is under Senate custody, Padilla questioned it: “Kayo ba nagbabayad ng kuryente dyan? Pambihira kayo. Kami nagbabayad dyan!”

(Are you paying the electric bills in the Senate? It’s us who pay for it!)

Padilla, who in the video claims he is Trillanes’ classmate at Siena College, even offered to be his cellmate, and added, “Wag kang matakot kasi wala ka dapat ikatakot.” (You don’t have to be afraid because there’s nothing you should be afraid of.)

In the end, the actor told viewers that Trillanes should just do the right thing by surrendering himself to the law.

Padilla was awarded absolute pardon by Duterte back in 2016. He was previously convicted for illegal possession of firearms in 1994. In 1997, he was ordered released under the administration of President Fidel Ramos, who first gave him pardon, though not absolute.

His absolute pardon from President Duterte reinstated Padilla’s civil and political rights, such as his right to vote and seek public office. Talks that Padilla may be a possible PDP senatorial candidate in 2019 surfaced last August. JB
