Erik Santos

After a decade and a half, Erik Santos still has what it takes to make fans swoon. He is celebrating his 15th anniversary in the music biz via a concert, “Greatest Moments,” on Sept. 22, 8 p.m. at the Mall of Asia Arena (call 470-2222).

The so-called “King of OPM Theme Songs” is all set to sing his heart out and let his music work its magic.

Kudos, my friend! You can never be dethroned because the power of your music will definitely last.

FEATURED STORIES

Here’s my chat with Erik:

What stands out in your memory about your journey in the biz? When I won in “Star in a Million” in 2003. It made me realize that my dreams have turned into reality. I knew in my heart that it was the beginning of greater moments in my life.

What has fame taught you? That you always have to seize every moment because nothing is permanent. I also learned to be grateful for everything that happens to me.

How do you keep yourself grounded?  My family keeps me grounded. They are my greatest support system. They’re the ones who always tell me to be humble, accept criticism, be teachable and to always learn new things.

What was the worst rumor about you, and how did you handle it?  Someone wrote malicious posts about me, insulted my family and put them on social media several times. So, I filed a case!

What’s your personal anthem? “This Is the Moment.” It has been identified with me since I sang it at the grand finals of “Star in a Million.” It’s the most requested song in my singing engagements. It’s mandatory that I sing it.

What’s the craziest thing a fan did for you?  They set up a sweet surprise for me in my house during Valentine’s Day. They connived with my family, since I didn’t have someone special to celebrate V-Day with.

How do you handle bashers?  I don’t mind them. I rarely read comments on social media. I’ve learned to choose my battles.

What will it take for a girl to pin you down?  She must love Jesus Christ.

What’s the biggest love lesson you have learned?  Where love is concerned, each person has his/her own timeline. Never question one’s state when it comes to love. No matter what love trials you’ve been through, never get tired of loving.

What’s next in line as you embark on your 16th year in the biz?   I plan to create more beautiful music, stage more concerts and mentor aspiring singers. I want to be an inspiration to people in my own little way. My dream is to last longer in the biz and, hopefully, settle down in the next three years.
