Robin Padilla, alongside fellow Muslims in the world, are currently celebrating the Islamic holiday Eid al-Adha. Since the holiday is considered the holiest among the two Islamic holidays (the other being Eid al-Fitr), Padilla calls on Filipinos to celebrate God’s love instead of politicizing Eid al-Adha.
In the name of the one and only God, the most merciful and the most compassionate)… 21 August 2018 Eid al-Adha 21 August 1896 – Andres Bonifacio creates a new secret Katipunan code. 21 August 1983 Benigno Aquino martyrdom,” wrote Padilla in a post he shared via Instagram yesterday, Aug 21. The actor uploaded a photo of his daughter, Maria Isabella standing beside what looks like a framed Kataas-taasan, Kagalang-galangan, Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan (KKK) flag.
He noted that yesterday marks not only the beginning of Eid al-Adha but also supposedly the date of Bonifacio changing the Katipunan code after the Spaniards discovered it, as well as the 35th anniversary of Aquino’s assassination.
([We should] prioritize God the Creator before our love for our motherland. The one and only God [must] come first before anything. Respecting other people’s faith is a prerequisite for having peace in our motherland.)
(I am asking you my fellow Filipinos to not politicize our celebration. My family won’t ever forget the history of our motherland, especially that of the national heroes, but nothing is greater than the love of God. Please don’t mix [the colors] yellow or blue or red or black with this day.)
Padilla said he is praying that being a Filipino, as well as embracing the culture of bayanihan, may prevail over disputes. He then greeted everyone, regardless of their religion, with the Islamic greeting “Eid Mubarak” (which means “have a blessed celebration”).
(There should no longer be a debate with regards to the love of God because nothing is greater than that. Nothing!)
Eid al-Adha commemorates Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son, Isaac, as an act of obedience to God. Muslims celebrate the Islamic holiday by sacrificing animals. The meat from the sacrifice is shared and divided into three: a portion each to the poor; to one’s relatives, friends and neighbors; and to one’s immediate family. JB
