Local theaters will be screening Filipino films—all 20 of them—from Aug. 15 to 21 in celebration of the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP). There will be no foreign films for the week, however.

In a press briefing in Malacañang on Thursday, Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) chair Liza Diño urged the public to support the PPP, calling it an important platform for local filmmakers and producers.

Engage local audience

“Because of the very lopsided ratio of screening Hollywood films versus local films, we need these platforms to engage with the local audience,” said Diño.

The FDCP selected eight films, as well as six special feature entries and eight entries for the Sine Kabataan.

The film entries are “Ang Babaeng Allergic sa Wifi,” “Bakwit Boys,” “Madilim Ang Gabi,” “Pinay Beauty,” “Signal Rock,” “The Day After Valentine’s,” “Unli Life” and “We Will Not Die Tonight.”

The special feature entries are “Balangiga: Howling Wilderness,” “Gusto Kita With All My Hypothalamus,” “High Tide,” “Kiko Boksingero,” “Paki” and “Tu Pug Imatuy.”

The Sine Kabataan entries are “Alas-Nuebe ng Tanghali,” “Anonymous Student Vlog,” “Bahay-Bahayan,” “Bato Bato Pick,” “Isang Tula Para Sa Nawawala,” “Koleksyong Pamalo,” “Masaya Ako” and “Runner.” — JULIE M. AURELIO
