Diego Loyzaga spent his weekend becoming a gardener at their house in Antipolo, Rizal. However, the actor drew both praise and criticism after he was seen “cutting down” trees.

Hardinero (gardener) for the day, Antipolo get away,” wrote Loyzaga in a post he shared via Instagram yesterday, Aug. 4. The actor uploaded a shirtless photo of himself wearing camouflage shorts and a black and white striped slides, while carrying an axe.

Aside from his photo, Loyzaga also shared two videos of himself “cutting down” a thin tree, as well as a large tree branch.

Netizens were quick to react on Loyzaga’s post. Fans pointed out how handsome the actor as a gardener was. Moreover, they also commented on how hot he looked like while gardening.

Others, however, weren’t amused with his videos. They were wondering why Loyzaga had to “cut down” trees. Furthermore, they said that it was not a good idea to cut down trees and share it for everyone to see.

Hardinero pero pinutol yung puno? ([You’re supposedly a] gardener but you cut down [a] tree?) What the hell?” asked one commenter, an Instagram page dedicated to the happenings in the Miss Earth community, @missearthinsidereport. Loyzaga replied by saying that he only trimmed the dead branches to help new branches grow.

The netizen insisted that in one of the actor’s videos, he “cut down” an entire thin tree. “[W]ala na ba kayong magawang iba? Halos yung iba [nag-eeffort] para [mag-tree] planting tas kayo [‘yan] lang gagawin [n’yo],” the commenter asked.

(Don’t you have anything else to do? Others are making an effort to plant trees, but you, on the other hand, are doing [the opposite].)

Loyzaga, who seemed to have given up explaining himself, only replied with three man facepalming emojis, accompanied by an OK hand sign emoji.

Loyzaga’s mother, Teresa Loyzaga, who uploaded one of the actor’s controversial videos in her own Instagram page, made use of the comment section to clarify the situation.

Replying to the commenter, Teresa said, “@missearthinsidereport Prunning lang (only) and clean up. Taking advantage of the rain for new foliage. We have 9 lan[z]ones, 12 guyabanos, 7 avocados, about 30 langka and another 30 lychee trees to plant.”

Diego Loyzaga’s mother said that the thin tree in one of the videos was the only one that was cut down: “Just 1 ipil ipil had to go. Make room for more trees. Mango stump [with] anay (termites) was trimmed. We share your passion for trees. Thank you for your care.” JB
