Showcase for Latin American films

“The Secret in Their Eyes”

“Gems” of Latin American cinema will be showcased at the Instituto Cervantes in Intramuros, Manila, on four Saturdays of August.

Yesterday, Miguel Ferrari’s “My Straight Son” or “Blue and Not So Pink” (Azul y no tan rosa), a 2014 Goya winner from Venezuela, kicked off the event. On Aug. 11, another Goya winner, this time from Argentina, Marcelo Piñeyro’s 2005 film, “The Method” (El método), will be shown.

The 2009 Oscar best foreign language film from Argentina, Juan José Campanella’s “The Secret in Their Eyes” (El secreto de sus ojos), will be screened on Aug. 18.

Capping off the series is Juan Carlos Tabio’s “The Waiting List” (Lista de espera) on Aug. 25. Set in Cuba, the Spanish film premiered in the Un Certain Regard section of Cannes in 2000.

The Instituto Cervantes is at Casa Azul, Plaza San Luis Complex, Real St., Intramuros, Manila.
