The eldest of Albert and late wife Liezl said that she thanks God for “sparing my family from this tragedy that could have easily been one of us” in a Facebook post.

She shared that they frequented that particular supermarket branch. “[W]e were there and left exactly 1 MINUTE before this man held hostage around 40 people in the store and open fired killing 1 woman and injured little children!” Martinez recalled.

Martinez remembered texting her sister Alissa as she was leaving the parking lot at 1:29 p.m. that day. Unbeknown to her, she would luckily escape as the shooting happened a minute later at the same spot where she was.

Police arrested the suspect identified as Gene Evin Atkins. According to the investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department, one of their men accidentally shot one of the hostages in the shooting, as per Radyo Inquirer 990 AM.

Martinez, who is a stylist in her own right, lives in Los Angeles with husband, photographer Roy Macam and their daughter Adalynn.  /ra
