Nickelodeon’s ‘Rugrats’ to return with new episodes, feature film

Are you among the 1990s kids who tuned in to “Rugrats” on the Nickelodeon channel back in the day? Then you should be excited to hear that the babies will be back not only on television but also on the big screen.

Media company Viacom, which owns Nickelodeon, announced that Tommy, Chuckie and the rest of the “Rugrats” babies will return with 26 new episodes and a feature film, as per The Hollywood Reporter yesterday, July 16.

“‘Rugrats’ is hands-down one of the most celebrated cartoons in TV history, and we are thrilled for a whole new audience to meet these iconic characters in brand new adventures,” Viacom chief operating officer and interim Nickelodeon head Sarah Levy said. “What was true in 1991 when the original show premiered is still true today: kids are fascinated with the world of babies. We can’t wait for today’s kids to meet Tommy, Chuckie and pals.”

The report stated that production for the animated series’ revival is already underway in Burbank, California. More details such as casting and premiere date will be announced later. Meanwhile, film studio Paramount Pictures will release the upcoming “Rugrats” film on Nov. 13, 2020.
