“‘Rugrats’ is hands-down one of the most celebrated cartoons in TV history, and we are thrilled for a whole new audience to meet these iconic characters in brand new adventures,” Viacom chief operating officer and interim Nickelodeon head Sarah Levy said. “What was true in 1991 when the original show premiered is still true today: kids are fascinated with the world of babies. We can’t wait for today’s kids to meet Tommy, Chuckie and pals.”

The report stated that production for the animated series’ revival is already underway in Burbank, California. More details such as casting and premiere date will be announced later. Meanwhile, film studio Paramount Pictures will release the upcoming “Rugrats” film on Nov. 13, 2020.

“Rugrats” was well-loved at the time of its first release in 1991, down to its last episode which aired in 2004. The series received numerous awards, such as the Daytime Emmy Awards, Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Katrina Hallare/JB
