A news reporter’s job isn’t easy

ARCHULETA. Topbills TV5’s “Nandito Ako.”

FREDDIE Gadaingan, student: “For some time now, our evening TV newscasts have been doing text polls. But, quite often, they feature questions that are either too predictable or idiotic—like, ‘Who would be in favor of cutting down trees to give way for the expansion of a mall in Baguio?’ Spare us the no-brainer questions, please!”

Danny Castro, businessman: “A recent episode of ‘Patrol ng Pilipino,’ hosted by Ryan Chua, is commendable for its detailed account of what TV reporters go through to cover the ongoing Corona impeachment trial. Now I realize that a news reporter’s job isn’t easy. Kudos to these men and women whose efforts are seldom recognized and are often overshadowed by news-reading anchors.”

Latest casualty

Lilian dela Cruz, televiewer: “For the nth time, ‘Eat Bulaga’ has outlasted another rival, the latest casualty being ‘Happy Yipee Yehey,’ which will soon bid farewell. Tito, Vic and Joey and their younger hosting counterparts are just too ‘seasoned’ for ‘HYY.’

“Vic Sotto is a big factor for the noontime show’s success. Honesty and sincerity are written all over him, especially when he hands out his ‘gifts’ to the needy.”

Jojo Calderon, office employee: “News about G Tongi being tapped to play the role of David Archuleta’s mother on TV5’s ‘Nandito Ako’ is welcome, considering that they somewhat resemble each other.”
