Mira Sorvino schools hater who told her to ‘stick to acting’

Actress Mira Sorvino is making her presence felt online, whether it’s talking about sexual harassment issues or controversial policies. The Oscar winner for “Mighty Aphrodite” made it clear to bashers on Twitter that she’s all for civil discourse, but for such commenters, she issued a warning: “I’m posting this to say to anyone trolling me, I will block you. If you can’t be civil even if we disagree, you’re out of here. Life is too short!”

Sorvino, who has openly compared President Trump’s immigration policies to pre-Nazi Germany’s, eventually caught the attention of Twitter users who side with the current US administration.

One user tweeted, “You’re a pretty girl and I’ve enjoyed your acting, but you can’t possibly know what pre-Nazi Germany was like. Stick to what you’re good at, acting.”

It was like handing her ammunition—and strike back, Sorvino most certainly did. “I wrote my thesis on racial conflict and persecution at Harvard,” she tweeted. “Worked on a documentary on neo-Nazi groups in Russia, performed in the film about the SonderKommando at Auschwitz, ‘The Grey Zone,’” she continued. “And am an avid student [who researched on] the Holocaust and what led to it, so I beg to differ.”

The troll, not unexpectedly, soon vanished, deleting his Twitter account during the fallout. Sorvino’s response was liked over 30,000 times, and retweeted over 5,000 times. —OLIVER PULUMBARIT
