Comedian Pokwang couldn’t help but turn sentimental after witnessing her daughter Mae Subong graduate from college.
Mae, 22, finished her studies at Enderun Colleges in Taguig.
Pokwang, whose real name is Marietta Subong, shared a video of her daughter claiming her diploma at the graduation ceremony. She also posted pictures of Mae growing up, including a graduation picture from her younger years.
In the last picture, the proud mom is seen posing with her daughter and partner Lee O’Brian, father to her baby Malia.
Pokwang likened raising Mae to caring for a bird: “Inalalayan kita at inalagaan hanggang sa tuluyan kang mahubog pati ang iyong pangarap at kinabukasan.”
(I guided you and cared for you until you were developed, including your dreams and future.)
“Bukod sa kaligayahang dulot mo ng isilang kita ito ang isa sa pinaka masayang araw para sakin bilang isang ina,” she said of the milestone.
(Besides the joy in giving birth to you, this is one of my happiest days as a mother.)
She assured her daughter of her full support: “Lipad anak abutin mo ang pangarap mo ng buong tapang at may pananalig sa Dios. nandito lang ako anak aalalay sayo sa mga pangarap mo.”
(Fly, my child, reach your dreams with full courage and faith in God. I’m here to help you fulfill your dreams.)
O’Brian acknowledged Pokwang’s efforts as a single mom in raising Mae: “Congratulations MaeMae!! And congrats babe @itspokwang27 [Pokwang] for your endless support for her!!”
Pokwang and Mae have a tight bond, with the mother of two becoming emotional when Mae had to leave for an internship in Paris last year for six months. She dropped out of the show “I Can Do That” to spend more time with her daughter. Mae came back to the Philippines in early January, just in time to welcome her baby sister weeks later. JB
