Valeen Montenegro is optimistic about the box-office chances of Dominic D. Lim’s “The Write Moment,” her big-screen partnership with comedian Jerald Napoles. She believes the movie will find an audience because, as she explains, “moviegoers are now looking for something other than the usual rom-com fare.”
“A plain-looking guy gets paired with a beautiful leading lady. Clearly, this [formula], as demonstrated by ‘Kita Kita’ has a large following,” costar Jerald Napoles enthuses. “I’m confident that the audience will like our film, not only because it has similar elements [with the Alessandra de Rossi-Empoy Marquez starrer], but also because its story is fresh. And these days, everybody’s rooting for the underdog!”
“The Write Moment” tells the story of Dave (Jerald), a heartbroken writer who tries to get back with his ex-girlfriend Joyce through his romantic-comedy hugot script but fails, and instead finds himself magically living out the scenes he has written. He’s forced to follow everything verbatim, or else face being stuck in an existential loop of scenes that repeat over and over again.
The film debuted at the QCinema fest last year and will be shown in theaters nationwide starting June 27. —MARINEL R. CRUZ
