Speculations about Jolo Revilla and Jodi Sta. Maria’s breakup sparked online when the Cavite vice governor greeted the actress on her birthday.
Though it should have been a cause for celebration, his message seemed to carry a somber tone.
He wrote, “I wish you all the happiness in this world that you deserve. Thank you for bringing out the best in me. Thanks for the wonderful 8 years! Happy birthday Jods! God Bless always!”
Days after his greeting, Revilla tweeted on June 18: “When something is really meant for you, you don’t have to force it, rush it, or manipulate it.”

Though cryptic, some wondered if there was some “hugot (sentimentality)” behind it.
Sta. Maria has usually chosen to be more low-key about their relationship, her social media pages focused more on her time with family or personal projects.
However, she has posted pictures with Gab Revilla, Jolo’s son, which may indicate how important Revilla and his loved ones are to her.
For her birthday celebrations, there was no sign of his presence, at least based on their social media posts. Last March, Revilla shared a video with him and Sta. Maria during his 30th birthday bash. It is his last post with the actress so far.
In previous posts, Revilla was more outspoken about his affection, referring to Sta. Maria as “my love” and “forever ko (my forever).”
Though the couple split in 2016, it seems they were back on good terms in 2017, based on his affectionate social media posts.
Last December, Revilla referred to her as his “soon to be wife.” It seemed they were moving toward settling down when Sta. Maria poured out her feelings for Revilla on “Tonight with Boy Abunda” last January when she admitted, “Naibigay ko na sa kanya ang puso ko, kay Jolo (I’ve given my heart to him, to Jolo).”
Both have yet to publicly confirm their separation. /ra
