Gonzalez first read the letter of an anonymous sender she dubbed as “Miss Ayoko nang Maging Sad.” The letter writer narrated how she felt there was something missing in her life—joking about not being in a romantic relationship and expressing her wish to be financially independent.

“Sometimes I fall into bouts of sadness, and it’s a pressing feeling I can’t seem to shoo away,” the writer added.

Helping her out on her problem, Verzosa gave the sender several bits of advice such as having time for herself. The beauty queen also shared how she got out of depression by “really taking good of herself.”

“I exercise a lot and surround myself with good people,” Verzosa explained. “Hindi lahat ng (Not all) people around you make you feel good about yourself, so I had to cut people from my life.”

Another advice Verzosa gave was to have a healthy diet. She explained: “Whatever you put into your gut, it affects the way you think, it lifts your mood up.”

Verzosa, who is a mental health advocate, differentiated depression from sadness. Unlike depression where it is best to seek the help of a psychiatrist, the beauty queen said people can get out from periods of sadness by having “supreme effort from yourself.”

Other ways to deal with the feeling, as Verzosa shared, is getting enough sleep and avoiding alcohol and drugs. One thing that she shared was whenever she feels sad, she lists down 10 things she is grateful for.

The two lauded the sender for acknowledging her problem, which Verzosa said is the first step. She added: “If it goes on for two weeks na medyo you think you’re different na (if you think you’re different), [if] you’re not yourself anymore, it’s best to visit an expert on it.”

Gonzalez regularly vlogs about “Paano ba ‘To” where she gives advice to anonymous people. She also features notable celebrities in her video to help them out.  /ra
