Actor James Marsden has been tapped to play Sonic the Hedgehog in a planned movie adaptation of the video game classic.

Paramount Pictures landed the rights to the film, Variety reported on Wednesday. This will be the first time “Sonic the Hedgehog” will be adapted into a movie.

Jeff Fowler will be on the director’s seat for the film, marking his debut. “Deadpool” director Tim Miller will serve as executive producer.

The “Sonic” franchise was first released in 1991 under Sega. It features the blue hedgehog Sonic who is on a quest to defeat the evil Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik.

Marsden shot to fame for his portrayal of Cyclops in the “X-Men” movie franchise. He currently stars in the US science fiction series “Westworld.”

The movie is slated to be released on Nov. 15, 2019, in the US.  Katrina Hallare /ra
