Mexican actor-singer Diego Boneta recently landed roles in high-profile projects—one as a Latino singer in a biographical series, and another as an undisclosed character in a James Cameron-produced movie.
The actor stars in Telemundo’s “Luis Miguel” as the titular Mexican singer.
“It took me a year to prep for the project, then another year to shoot it, and it’s quite amazing to see this positive, warm reaction,” Boneta told Billboard.
One challenge, the “Rock of Ages” actor added, was to “humanize” the “living legend,” because little is known about the artist’s history.
Aside from being given a fake tooth gap, tanning and losing about 20 pounds for the role, Boneta said that singing was “probably the biggest challenge”: “I had to sound like someone who wasn’t me—and that someone happens to be one of the best singers alive.”
Boneta will also star with Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger in a new “Terminator” film produced by James Cameron. The reboot is scheduled for release in November 2019.—OLIVER PULUMBARIT
