Coleen Garcia revealed in a social media post that her loyal companion Bambi passed away on the day of her wedding.
Garcia recalls in a lengthy Instagram post, dated April 30, how she first got her dog Bambi as a present on her 9th birthday. Since then Bambi remained her loyal companion for 17 years, equivalent to over 80 years old in human years.
“Only a handful of people know what I’ve been through in my life, and all of them know the role that Bambi has played in it. I could tell countless stories about her, and almost everyone who’s known me for a long time has probably already met her,” wrote Garcia.
She added, “I always told her, ever since I was a little girl, to never leave my side until the day I get married. Over and over.”
On the night Garcia had to leave for the wedding venue, she was able to give Bambi one last hug while silently thanking the old dog for years of unwavering companionship. She also resolved to herself that Bambi could pass away while she was off on her wedding.
Garcia wrote, “I prayed to God that if it were to happen, I just hoped that it would happen while we weren’t home so that I wouldn’t have to see it.”
Surely enough on the day of her wedding, April 20, at 8:26 a.m., she received a text from their driver saying Bambi passed away that morning.
“How I felt was unexpected. I was purely filled with joy. I couldn’t even find it in me to be sad because I felt it would make me so greedy. How could I ask for more when God has blessed me with this much? She left me not a day before, not a day after, but waited until the actual DAY of my wedding. How amazing is that?” wrote Garcia.
With gratitude for little Bambi, Garcia considered the dog’s passing as an ushering into a new life–a life with a new companion in her now husband Billy Crawford. /ra
