Though already a star in her own right, Maine Mendoza couldn’t help but still get starstruck, as when she had a brief but “kilig” connection with The Script during the group’s concert in Manila last Saturday, April 14.
The Script packed the Mall of Asia Arena as the trio performed for the fourth time in the Philippines for its “Freedom Child” tour. Mendoza, a true-blue fan, sat — for the most part, sang and danced — in the VIP section. She also watched the band last 2015 for their “No Sound Without Silence” tour.
“Nagwawala lang ako (I was going crazy) the whole time and IT WAS SO WORTH IT,” Mendoza shared of her concert experience in an Instagram post. Her Instagram Stories show her singing every lyric to each performance.
The “Eat Bulaga” host also recalled a dreamy encounter with vocalist Danny O’Donoghue caught on video.
Since she was close to the stage, she managed to make eye contact with O’Donoghue — and blew him a kiss during their final song, “Hall of Fame”. “Tinignan ako ni Danny ng mej matagal then sinalo niya yung halik ko (Danny looked at me for a while then caught my [flying] kiss),” she narrated excitedly.
Of course, Mendoza injected her signature humor into the experience: she shared a clip from a viral Facebook video of “Mean Girls” dubbed with Filipino lines.
“Ganda ka (You think you’re pretty)?” character Regina George asks Cady Heron, as dubbed by Facebook user Macoy Averilla.
While Mendoza won’t allow the moment to get to her head, she gushed, “THIS IS ONE HELL OF A NIGHT!!!” JB
