It may not be a popular bonding activity for married couples but for Kean Cipriano and Chynna Ortaleza-Cipriano, script writing was not only a hobby which strengthened their relationship, it also honed their natural artistic gifts, as well.

And to top it,  the couple gets the best tutelage from award-winning screenwriter and playwright Ricky Lee.

Kaya sabi ko sige mag script writing class ako tapos sabi ko sa kanya, tara sama ka, [she’ll say] ‘ayoko ‘di naman ako nagsusulat eh,” said Cipriano in an intimate interview with select members of the entertainment press last Friday.

Ortaleza clarified that she, in fact, loves to write. However she just does not have the conviction to publish her works.

And so, the loving and determined husband made all the transactions for her and called up the master.

“So bigla niyang tinawagan si Ricky Lee. Tapos biglang sabi sa’kin, ‘Chynna please forward us your short essay or why don’t you forward us any of your poetry, any kind of writing so that we can see ano mga nasusulat mo,” said Ortaleza.

Indeed, learning script writing is one of the best things that have ever happened to them.

He was hats off to his wife’s work. What’s funny is that despite having hesitations at first, it was actually Ortaleza who finished first. She was completely done that her work was already on a hard copy where her hubby’s is still under final touches.

While welcoming the thought of eventually venturing into directorial jobs, script writing, or just writing itself is her main goal at the moment. “Mahilig ako mag-create ng worlds, dun ako sa script writing,” she said.

Eventually, the hobby became therapeutic for them, it became their date session. They would leave their kid to her grandparents while they go out not to eat out but to write.    /muf
