Every year, Inquirer Entertainment helps readers pick a show for that special day, by asking the concert artists to talk about their gigs… and romance.
‘Mr. & Mrs. A’
Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez, February 14, 8 p.m. Smart Araneta Coliseum; with guests Erik Santos, Vice Ganda and Angeline
Quinto; call 911-5555 or 854-3300.
How did you spend your very first Valentine date, who actually was your date, and what was memorable about it?
Ogie Alcasid (O): Oh my! I was 15… I visited my girlfriend in St. Scholastica and gave her roses. It was memorable because it was my first time to do that.
Regine Velasquez (R): My first real date on a Valentine’s Day was with Ogie when we watched the Peter Cetera concert at the Big Dome in 2009. It was memorable because he sang our favorite songs.
Tell us about your most unique Valentine’s Day.
O: Last year was quite unique. Regine and I spent it at home. I hired a private chef and my favorite jazz trio to play for us. Had two other couples over. It was fun and romantic.
Is Valentine’s Day overrated or does it deserve its special observance? Why?
O: I don’t think it is overrated. It’s a great day to celebrate romance with your partner.
R: I love Valentine’s Day. It’s our day!
What, in your opinion, is the most uniquely written love song and why?
O: I really like “For the First Time” by Kenny Loggins because of its lyrics: “For the first time/I am looking in your eyes/ For the first time/I am seeing who you are/Can’t believe how much I see/When you’re looking back at me/Now I understand what love is/For the first time… ”
R: Michael V’s song “Sinaksak Mo Ang Puso Ko.” It’s funny and tragic!
Why should we watch your concert?
O: It is the first time that we are doing a concert together after we got married and had a baby. It’s also Regine’s comeback show after giving birth. It celebrates romantic love, love for the family and love for your fellowmen because we are helping the Children’s Cancer Society.
R: I have been sidelined for a year to attend to something most precious to me –being a mother. This concert is our thanksgiving for that wonderful gift.
