Highly-acclaimed Cinemalaya 2017 entry “Ang Guro Kong ‘Di Marunong Magbasa” is the big winner at the recently concluded 20th Gawad Pasado awards.

Film director Perry Escaño can’t be any happier with his movie winning four out of 10 categories:

In his Facebook post, Escaño thanked everyone who took part in the film – from the production team to the marketing team, including the journalists who all helped to inform the public about the movie.

Inspired by true events, the film talks about the recruitment of innocent children as full-pledged members of separatist groups.

Because of this pressing problem, Aaquil, a farmer played by Vargas, assumes the work of an educator and teaches children how to read and write despite being an illiterate himself.

The cast includes Mon Confiado, Lou Veloso, James Blanco, Kiko Matos, Loren Burgos, Garie Concepcion, Alvin Barcelona, Paul Sy, Lianne Valentin, and Lorraine Salvador.

Also part of the cast are three awarded child actors – Miggs Cuaderno, Marc Justine Alvarez and Micko Laurente.

The film has merited commercial release and had school screenings with the aim of enlightening students about the abuse done on kids used in wars.
