In separate tweets posted only 10 minutes apart, pop star Zayn Malik and model Gigi Hadid announced they had decided to end their relationship, confirming previous reports and fans’ suspicion that not all is well between the couple.

“Gigi and I had an incredibly meaningful, loving and fun relationship. I have a huge amount of respect and adoration for her as a woman and a friend. She has such an incredible soul,” the singer wrote, adding that he’s grateful to their fans for respecting their decision and privacy. “We wish this news would have come from us first.”

According to a report by The Sun, the couple’s “crazy work schedules” are among the reasons they called it quits.

Gigi, meanwhile, said she’s “forever grateful for the love, time and life lessons” Zayn shared with her, and that she wants nothing “but the best for him.”

“Breakup statements often seem impersonal because there is really no way to put into words what two people experience together over a few years, not only in a relationship but in life in general,” she wrote. “I will continue to support him as a friend whom I have immense respect and love for.

“As for the future, whatever’s meant to be will always be,” she added. —ALLAN POLICARPIO
