Despite what some say that the unexpected should always be anticipated, one is never truly prepared for the loss of a loved one.

Actresses and sisters Michelle and Ehra Madrigal took to Instagram last night to share the news of their father Gerry’s passing on March 5. Their father had been confined in the hospital since February due to kidney and liver complications; the sisters had been positive about his road to recovery, and his passing on Monday proved to be a blow as they come to terms with his death. Gerry was supposed to turn 60 years old next month.

“This is how I wanna remember you… Sitting on your lap like I always did growing up, happy and content,” wrote Michelle last night. “Sayang we didn’t make it to your 60th next month. I don’t even know where to start, dad, ang hirap kasi kakabalik ko lang (it’s difficult especially since I have just returned [to the US]).”

It is known that Michelle flew to the Manila last month from Austin, Texas, to visit her father in the hospital. It had only been four days since she left the country when her father passed. And while Michelle knows that her father is no longer suffering, she still hurts over the thought of never again hearing him say, “Oh, kamusta, miss ka na ng daddy” or “Ingatan mo ang apo ko ah, love you.”

Older sister Ehra also shared a throwback picture of her and dad Gerry during her wedding last year. She, too, lamented his passing.

“It’s been 3 days since you passed away, daddy. Para lang akong lumulutang. Seeing you lifeless in your hospital bed, choosing your casket and all feels like it was just in a bad dream.”

Ehra also hurts at the idea of never hugging and talking to her dad ever again. “I don’t know how I’ll get through this, but I’ll continue praying for more strength. It’ll be your last night later in Manila before we transfer you to Bulacan so we’ll celebrate you!!! ’Til we dance together in heaven again!”

On Feb. 18, it will be remembered that Michelle shared a photo of her with her dad in the hospital, asking for prayers for her father’s health. “Came all the way back to see my daddy,” Michelle wrote. “I know miracles do happen… Prayer warriors, please pray for my father’s health. #godisgood#miracleshappen #faith.”
