Dingdong Dantes

Dingdong Dantes is still keeping mum about persistent speculations that he will run for public office in 2019.

The 37-year-old GMA 7 star is currently taking up Public Management at the University of the Philippines Open University. “I love my family and my work as an actor. And I likewise value community work. So, I guess the right question is, ‘Kailangan ba?’” Dingdong told reporters at a recent press conference for the prepaid offering of the satellite television service provider Cignal TV, which he and wife Marian Rivera are endorsing.

He stressed that entering politics is something that he “should absolutely … answer by myself alone.”

At her contract renewal with GMA 7 last month, Marian did say that she would give her full support to her husband should he decide to venture into politics.

“Whatever he wants to do in life, I will support it 101 percent,” she said then. “I don’t see anything wrong if he chooses to run, because we all know how kindhearted my husband is … and I believe in his abilities.”

For now, the couple is just happy to be spending quality time together with their daughter, Zia.

“[Marian’s show] ‘Super Ma’am’ is finished… Our schedule isn’t as hectic at the moment, so we have more time to bond again,” said Dingdong. —ALLAN POLICARPIO
