Having debuted at the lastest Sundance Film Festival, this marks Netflix’s first post-festival deal (acquired for seven figures). The release is planned for 2018.

“White Fang” is based upon the eponymous Jack London story about a wolf torn between domestication and life in the wild; it is told from the animal’s perspective, as originally written. Directed by Alexandre Espigares (who won an Oscar for his 2014 animated short, “Mr. Hublot”), it features the voices of Nick Offerman, Rashida Jones, Paul Giamatti and Eddie Spears.

Superprod, Bidibul Productions, and Big Beach are behind the animation. Dominique Monfery, Philippe Lioret and Serge Frydman wrote the feature, which was produced by Clément Calvet, Jérémie Fajner, Lilian Eche, Christel Henon, Marc Turtletaub and Peter Saraf.

The filmmakers said in a statement: “We always wanted to bring this timeless and thrilling adventure story to as wide an audience as possible and Netflix’s expansive reach gives us that opportunity.”

Per Deadline, “White Fang” has a sequel script ready. JB
