One commenter tried to explain that people are not questioning her being Filipino; rather, some people think she does not look Filipino enough because her American features are more dominant. The commenter also talked about the colonial mentality of fans.

Netizens have been criticizing the use of mestizo actors to play roles in “Bagani”. A tweet surfaced earlier which compared how Hollywood movie “Black Panther” employed actors of African descent while “Bagani” had “half-white” Asians covered with bronze makeup to portray pre-colonial Filipinos.
