The Oscar-winning American actress joins Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson on the cast of “Highwaymen”, a movie about the lawmen who finally caught the famous bank-robbing couple. Filming has already begun with director John Lee Hancock at the helm. The movie is scheduled for release in 2018 on Netflix.

Unlike Arthur Penn’s movie classic starring Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, the famous outlaws Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow aren’t the main characters in “Highwaymen”. The couple leave center stage for Texas Ranger Frank Hamer and his partner Maney Gault, who came out of retirement to hunt down the notorious couple whose robbing and killing spree lasted two years and spanned the states of Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Louisiana and New Mexico.

In May 1934, former Texas Ranger Frank Hamer, known for being a merciless lawman, set a trap for Bonnie and Clyde by setting up a police roadblock on their route. The ambush allowed police to shoot and kill the bandits as they arrived by car.

Frank Hamer is played by Kevin Costner, while Woody Harrelson plays Maney Gault. Kathy Bates joins the cast in an as yet unknown role. She previously worked with “The Founder” and “Saving Mr. Banks” director John Lee Hancock in the 2009 movie “The Blind Side”.

Currently filming in Louisiana, “Highwaymen” is scheduled for release in 2018 on the Netflix streaming platform. The film is, in fact, an old Universal Pictures project. At the time, the studio had Paul Newman and Robert Redford in its sights for the lead roles. JB
