Basking in the glory that followed the success of his new movie, “Meet Me in St. Gallen,” its lead actor Carlo Aquino admitted that there was a point in his life when he almost decided to walk away from show biz forever.

“Na-depress ako. Kasi bata pa lang, ang dami na pong papuri, di ‘ba? Yung inu-ulan ka ng ‘Ang galing-galing mo!’ Nagkaroon ng time na wala kong shows,” Aquino told talk-show host Boy Abunda in a televised interview on Friday.

(I got depressed. As a child, I got so many praises, right? They would say, “You’re so good!” Then there came a time when I didn’t have any shows.)

Aquino is known to achieve fame in his role in the 1998 film “Bata Bata, Paano Ka Ginawa?” starring the Star for All Seasons Vilma Santos.

Not satisfied with the praises he was getting, skepticism took over him and asked, “Totoo ba na magaling ako? Kasi gusto-gusto ko po itong ginagawa ko eh. Mahal ko talaga yung pag-arte.” (Am I really good? Because I really like what I do. I love acting.)

Aquino then shared that he almost wanted to go to the US to start a new life, but decided against it since he did not know what to do there.

But when the call of opportunity came for being the leading man, Aquino still was uncertain about accepting the role and even asked the movie’s director, Irene Villamor, “Sigurado kayo (Are you sure)?”

Sobrang natatakot akong mag-fail kaya pag may inaalok sa akin, tinatanggihan ko (I really am scared to fail. That’s why if an offer comes, I reject it),” Aquino said.

And what does he think of one-night stands since his played a role in the movie who has engaged in it? “Hindi mo alam kung saan papunta eh, kung ano susunod. Yung walang kasiguraduhan kung may masasaktan kang ibang tao, kung masasaktan siya o ikaw,”  he expressed.

(You don’t know where it will lead to, what will happen next. There’s no certainty if you will hurt someone, if you will hurt him or yourself.)
