ShaGab returns with Valentine ad

/ 12:51 PM February 09, 2018

As previously announced by Megastar Sharon Cuneta on her Instagram account, her latest endeavor, which reunites her with former husband and screen partner Gabby Concepcion, was unveiled today at 10:20 a.m.

The “reunion” project was much-anticipated among their fans (including not a few celebrities) since their planned movie got shelved last year.

It took fast-food chain McDonald’s to reunite the beloved ’80s love team in a Valentine-themed commercial.

According to Popoy Caritativo, Concepcion’s manager, the mood on the set of the TV commercial shoot was “friendly.”

“It was very relaxed,” he related. “There was no tension at all.”

The two obviously had a blast, gamely posing for souvenir snapshots with each other and with the crew.

The TV commercial was originally scheduled to be unveiled on Feb. 10, but due to all the rumors (and leaked photos) circulating in cyberspace, it was moved a day early.

In her social media posts, Cuneta had been dropping hints about the ShaGab reunion.

Concepcion had earlier posted a teaser and Cuneta responded posthaste, feigning cluelessness in Spanish!

Concepcion is a Spanish speaker and Cuneta aced the language in high school.

Caritativo said ShaGab’s social media interaction reflects the duo’s current genial status. “That’s all them.” Unfiltered. Unedited.

Even fellow celebrities Angel Locsin, Ai-Ai delas Alas, Ara Mina, Marian Rivera and Judy Ann Santos have expressed excitement over the tandem’s comeback on social media.

The ShaGab reunion will be the main topic in Noel Ferrer’s talk show, “Level Up: Showbiz Saturdate,” on Radyo Inquirer, onFeb. 10. “Due to insistent public demand,” said Ferrer.

The duo was considered the hottest love team in the 1980s—topbilling such hit movies as “Dear Heart,” “P.S. I Love You,” “My Only Love,” “Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin.”

They got married in 1984 at the Manila Cathedral (with no less than then-President Ferdinand Marcos in attendance as a principal sponsor). In 1985, they had a daughter, KC Concepcion, who eventually joined show biz as an adult.

The fairy-tale romance ended when the couple separated in 1987, but they continued making movies like “Bakit Ikaw Pa Rin,” “Una Kang Naging Akin” and “Tayong Dalawa” in the 1990s.”

Cuneta thanked their fans for helping the video garner over a million views in under four hours on Facebook.

Concepcion similarly expressed his gratitude to their followers. He told the Inquirer: “We are really excited to share this with everyone, especially our supporters who have been waiting for a comeback project for years.”

Cuneta described the commercial’s concept as “heartfelt and very honest”.

Concepcion said: “We believe we owe this to everyone. We hope you enjoy our newest project together, 25 years in the making.”
