Selfless service

Some people use their fame and influence to promote materialism and glorify hedonism. And, there are those who use theirs to help others, like Oprah Winfrey. Thankfully, however, we don’t have to be Oprah to experience the heady joys of helping and giving.

Position

Whoever we are and whatever our position in society may be, we can experience happiness and peace that spring from selfless service. A great sage once said that selfishness is the sure path to misery and unhappiness. On the other hand, kindness, selflessness, concern for others and action based on one’s desire to help others bring inner satisfaction and deep, lasting happiness.
