News reporters have feelings, too

MARITESS Alejo, accountant, shares: “Drowned in the aftermath of ‘Sendong’ is the news reporters’ commendable effort to take viewers to where the action was. I was moved by the TV images showing the devastation the killer typhoon brought to affected areas in Northern Mindanao and some parts of the Visayas.

“But, what caught my attention was a news reporter’s account on Christmas Eve: As she was wrapping up her report, I noticed that she seemed to be holding back her emotions. I realized that news reporters have feelings, too. I cried when she started greeting the news anchor and cried harder when she seemed to break down when she greeted her own family in Manila.”

Hector Casion, student: “GMA 7’s ‘I-Witness’ has a way of telling sad stories without emotionally ‘blackmailing’ its viewers. A case in point was the recent episode, ‘Unang Hakbang,’ featuring stories of individuals in need of prosthetic or artificial feet. Mariz Umali was a commendable storyteller, and she was a natural in her exchanges with her subjects.”

Perf Ko, office employee: “The disqualification of a film entry to the Metro Manila film festival a day before the awards night raises more questions than answers as to the capability of the MMDA in running the film event. If the lady producer is to be believed, the film in question was already viewed by the MMDA representative before the festival. So, why the apparent delay in its decision to disqualify the film entry?”
