JC Santos’ family overwhelmed by his newfound fame
JC Santos, who traces his roots to theater and the indies, says that while members of his family are happy about his newfound fame, they are also feeling overwhelmed.
“This is because they are receiving special attention from their peers, too,” explains JC, who first gained recognition in mainstream television for his work on the hit drama series “Till I Met You” (2016-2017), where he played James Reid’s gay best friend, Ali.
Only recently, JC joined a nationwide campaign for the 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival entry “Meant to Beh,” where he is a major cast member.
“After two years of not being able to celebrate Christmas with my family because of the teleserye, I was with them this year. I asked, ‘gusto n’yo bang ma-hassle?’ I brought them to the mall to watch ‘Meant to Beh,’ na-hassle nga sila!” quips JC, or John Carlo Abrugar Santos in real life.
“They said they were proud of me and couldn’t believe how much I’ve accomplished but made me promise not to do that again. They told me they would rather be with me in private,” the 29-year-old actor shares with the Inquirer.

For JC, however, nothing much has changed. “I’m still as passionate about acting as before. It’s just that I get more attention now compared to when I was doing indie movies— those of us in the cast were relatively unknown and we just got by through word of mouth,” he points out.
“It just feels good that I am now given the chance to work with bankable actors like Bossing (Vic Sotto, lead of ‘Meant to Beh’), whom I learned so much from,” JC adds. “Like him, I want to last long in this industry and be among the reliable ones.”—MARINEL R. CRUZ
