Dermot Mulroney and Dylan McDermott are teaming up for the sitcom “LA to Vegas,” and whether or not it finally lessens the supposed confusion that their names bring, they intend to enjoy portraying rival pilots in the show.
They recently revealed that they have rarely met prior to doing the series, but one such encounter was memorable for both actors.
“I’d say the greatest meeting of all time was when we were both naked in the Beverly Hot Springs, and we ran into each other,” McDermott, a former “American Horror Story” cast member, told Entertainment Weekly.
Mulroney, who appeared in “How to Make an American Quilt,” said of the chance encounter at the spa: “Now, at least we know how to tell us apart.”
McDermott, 56, has Julia Roberts in common with Mulroney, 54: She played the former’s spouse in “Steel Magnolias,” while in “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” she was a woman in love with the latter’s character.
So, after three decades of hearing about each other and getting entangled in mixups by colleagues, they came clean about their longtime “rivalry.”
“I’ve definitely blamed Dermot for maybe five or six bad movies I’ve done,” quipped McDermott.
Mulroney responded, “I frequently sign Dylan’s name on autographs.”—OLIVER PULUMBARIT
