Why it’s easier for Rhian to be in a relationship with a nonshow biz bf

Rhian Ramos has never had a nonshow biz boyfriend until she started going out with businessman Jason Choachuy three years ago. And one of the things the actress has realized so far is that maintaining a romantic relationship with someone from a different field is easier—“100-percent” easier, it turned out.

For one, petty quarrels or tampuhan don’t turn into a public spectacle.

“When we get into arguments, he never feels tweeting about it or blowing it up into something more than just a normal misunderstanding that couples have from time to time,” she told the Inquirer at a recent press conference for her new GMA 7 television series, “The One That Got Away.”

And the unpredictable nature of show biz life, curiously, works to the couple’s advantage.

“When I’m doing a soap, we don’t get to see each other often, which makes us miss each other terribly. But when I’m not too busy, I see him almost every single day. Perhaps the change in dynamics makes things interesting for us,” the 27-year-old GMA 7 star related.

Rhian is happy and “feels bagets” when with Jason. But marriage, she stressed, isn’t on the plate at the moment.

“I’m just not ready yet. And I believe he knows that. A man wouldn’t propose marriage unless he’s quite sure he’s going to get a ‘yes,’” said Rhian, whose ideal marrying age is 35.

“That’s how I felt when I was younger, and that still hasn’t changed. I’m not in a rush, especially now that technology is so advanced. I don’t have to race against my biological clock—I can [have my eggs] frozen,” she said, laughing.

“The One,” which also stars Dennis Trillo, Lovi Poe and Max Collins, is billed as a sexy comedy, and requires Rhian’s character, Zoe, to dress and act rather provocatively.

Very supportive

But her boyfriend doesn’t mind. “He’s very supportive. Sometimes, we would do a shoot where I’m required to wear swimsuit that I find kind of shocking! But, I would show him the photos after, and he would be just like, ‘That looks good!’” she related.

It’s fitting that she was offered the project at this point in her career, because Rhian has never been more comfortable with her body.

“I’m not insecure or ashamed about anything anymore,” she said. “Everyone has insecurities but if you focus on those things, you end up forgetting to be grateful for what you have. So now, I’m focusing on positive things.”

Her role, she added, pushes her to improve her physique. “If it weren’t for this, I wouldn’t have been inspired to get this fit, because I love to eat and enjoy. But I want to give justice to my character, so itodo na!” said Rhian, who plans to add wakeboarding to her fitness regimen this year.

But far more than the physical “assets,” being sexy, she pointed out, is about the attitude: “I feel sexy now because I feel confident. Not everyone has the same features to flaunt. Sometimes, you look at a person who isn’t necessarily your type, but still find him sexy. It’s a state of mind.”
