Pop diva Celine Dion is set—yet again—to hold her first Manila concert on July 19 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, according to local promoter Ovation Productions.
The one-night show will be part of the Canadian singer’s world tour, “Celine Dion Live 2018,” which will take place after her ongoing residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas ends in June. The concert series will be her first in the Asia-Pacific region since her “Taking Chances” tour back in 2008.
“We’re playing some countries for the very first time ever—in my whole career. I will also be returning to some places that I have loved and been in before,” Celine said in a video posted on her Facebook page.
“I can’t wait to be there with you. I can’t wait to sing for you,” added the singer, who’s also going to return to Tokyo and Macau, and make first time visits to Singapore, Jakarta, Taipei and Bangkok.
Tickets go on sale starting Jan. 18 (call 470-2222). Meanwhile, members of the Team Celine online fan club will get access to a presale today and tomorrow.
The 49-year-old recording artist was previously scheduled to sing at an exclusive private show at Solaire Resort and Casino on Nov. 26, 2014, then do a full concert at the SM Mall of Asia Arena three days after. However, health and personal problems forced Celine to take an “indefinite hiatus” in August 2014, cancelling the Manila gigs and other engagements around the world.
Aside from nursing inflamed vocal cords, the five-time Grammy winner also had to take care of her husband, René Angélil, who was then recovering from the surgical removal of a cancerous tumor in his throat. He died in 2016.
Considered one of the most influential vocalists in pop music, Celine is one of the world’s best-selling artists, with over 200 million records sold. She has released 26 studio albums—15 in French; 11 in English—and is behind such hits as “My Heart Will Go On,” “The Power of Love,” “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” and “Because You Loved Me.”
