Maxene Magalona and Rob Mananquil said “I do” in a church and in front of only their closest family members and friends prior to their all-white-motif Boracay beach wedding.
Rob’s sister Rissa shared on Instagram that the couple had their church wedding on Jan. 8 in a Forbes Park church.
“It was so private, there weren’t even any coordinators. The couple just spoke over the mic to gather everyone and start the solemn ceremony,” the model-entrepreneur said.
The families also felt the presence of Maxene’s dad, Francis M., through a butterfly.
“Right when Maxene was about to step towards the altar, a brown butterfly fluttered before her… the Magalonas and Mananquils witnessed it. I got goosebumps when I saw it. Pia and Maxene confirmed later on that it was Francis M.,” she shared in an Instagram post.
Maxene’s sister-in-law was all praises for her bright personality. “Maxene is like a ray of sunshine, always so cheerful, bubbly and bright. I’ve never seen her frown, actually,” Rissa said of a family photo of the Magalona and Manaquil women.
The matron of honor, Saab Magalona, was heartbroken not to be in the beach wedding as she’s due for twins soon, but she was at least present for the church wedding.
The musician shared a photo of the sisters from her own wedding alongside one from the church wedding.
“We didn’t even realize that we wore our hair the exact same way 2 years ago!!!” she gushed.
“I really wish I could be there, but with her big and selfless heart, she told me not to worry about it because the safety of my babies is what’s most important,” said Saab who settled with looking at photos of the Boracay ceremony while wearing her matron of honor dress in bed.
Instead of a long gown, Maxene opted for a one-shoulder, tea-length, white dress. Rob wore a checkered gray suit with a spotted polo and a leather jacket.
After the ceremony, guests were treated to eight cakes that showed moments important to the couple. These included a cake topper of the two wearing Francis M. shirts, one of them and their pets, their travels together, and the proposal in Japan.
Principal sponsors included prominent businessman Ben Chan, actor-politicians Lucy Torres and Richard Gomez, celebrity dermatologist Dr. Aivee Aguilar-Teo, cosmetic surgeon Dr. Z Teo, comedian Michael V. and singer Gary Valenciano. /ra
