The actress opened up about her insecurities in her personal blog, sarahlahbati.com, on Monday. She looked back on her teenage years, when she “felt unsure, doubtful and self-conscious” about the girl she used to be — the one who had wavy hair, thought she was fat, moved awkwardly and wore the wrong clothes.

“I kept comparing myself to other girls who had straight hair (like they stepped out of a shampoo commercial) and perfect bodies, who moved gracefully and had model-perfect makeup,” Lahbati wrote.

And while she got temporary happiness out of possessing trendy things, she still felt incomplete. This all changed when she met her true friends: her high school buddies. She wrote: “These friends of mine made me feel loved. They accepted me for who I am, and I cherish them.”

Throughout time, Lahbati realized that it is important to stay true to one’s self. She admitted that she is “sick and tired” whenever someone brings up the “How to be you?” question. She advises girls not to fret if they don’t look like their Instagram idols.

“Each of us has her own special gifts and talents. Each one is beautiful in her way,” she stated. Lahbati further encouraged her readers to embrace what they have and focus on positive traits that can be accentuated, “You have a good heart. You can love.”

Ending her post, she posed a challenge: “Don’t ask the celebs you idolize, ‘How to be you?’ Instead, ask yourself, ‘How can I be the best that I can be?’ and improve yourself.”

The six-month pregnant actress recently ventured into blogging via her own website, where she writes about her personal life and travels, among others. JB
