Miguel Tanfelix and Bianca Umali—who are 19 and 17 years old, respectively—have already worked together in close to 10 projects, as child actors and tween stars. Lately, however, the two GMA 7 talents have been taking on teenybopper roles as a love team called “BiGuel.”
But now, Miguel and Bianca say, they’re ready to take their onscreen partnership a step closer toward “maturity” with their new primetime series, “Kambal, Karibal”—a family and romantic drama spiced up with supernatural elements.
The show also stars Carmina Villaroel, Alfred Vargas, Jean Garcia and Marvin Agustin. It airs weeknights starting Nov. 27.
Our interview with BiGuel:
You have practically grown up together in the biz.
Miguel (M): Yes, the new series is a challenge for us, because now we’re targeting a new age bracket. We want to show our supporters a new BiGuel, while still staying wholesome.
Do you think all the time you spent working together has been beneficial to your tandem?
M: Kung wala kaming pinagsamahan, we wouldn’t be able to treat each other the way we do now. Our experiences have helped strengthen our teamwork.
How has your relationship grown onscreen and off-?
M: What you see onscreen is what you get offscreen. No filters, as they say.
B: A friendship gets better and deeper as you learn more about each other. Now, I can say that my friendship with Miguel is really solid.
How do you build chemistry?
M: By being natural.
B: Talagang magka-vibes lang kami—that’s just how it is.
Can the fans expect kissing scenes this time around?
M: I’m expecting that, too (laughs). Joke lang. We will see.
B: No idea. But even without them, the fans can expect more maturity from our acting.
Is there a particular love team you’d want to emulate?
M: “DongYan” (Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes), of course. Watching them onscreen makes me feel giddy. We saw them grow together, and now they have a family.
B: DongYan also. Goals!
