Miss Universe 2017 candidate Rachel Peters updated her Instagram page with a photo of her national costume inspired by the mythical bird sarimanok.
Peters wrote on the photo’s caption, “A modern twist of the legendary Sarimanok. A symbol of good fortune for the Maranao people.”

Peters wore the costume for a Miss Universe 2017 event held at Planet Hollywood’s The AXIS in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. Each of the contestants strutted on the catwalk to showcase their unique national costumes.
Peters shared her backstage moment with Miss Malta Tiffany Pisani and Miss U.S. Virgin Islands Esonica Veira, both also wearing flamboyant costumes.
Peters’ costume may be the most revealing national costume of recent times. Miss Universe 2016 candidate Maxine Medina and former Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach each wore gowns for their national costumes.
