A new video for “The Star” finds Mariah Carey singing in front of a starry sky while key scenes from the new animated film play out.
The movie “The Star” was released on Friday in the United States and takes its story inspiration from the Nativity of Jesus, with a voice cast that features Gina Rodriguez, Zachary Levi, Kristin Chenoweth, Oprah Winfrey and many more stars.
Mariah Carey lends her voice to the role of Rebecca the hen and performs the movie’s title track, a ballad with a swelling arrangement and a message about keeping one’s faith.
The soundtrack for “The Star” was released in October and also features contributions by Fifth Harmony and a number of country, pop and gospel singers.
Mariah Carey has long been associated with the holiday season; her 1994 recording of “All I Want for Christmas is You” remains a hugely popular holiday staple. It remains to be seen if “The Star” will also join the holiday hall of fame. JB
