“How to Get Away With Murder” actress Viola Davis is fine with her daughter, Genesis Tennon, playing dress-up as any of her heroines, on one condition—she has to keep her hair the way it is.
Davis told Yahoo Lifestyle that she didn’t want her 6-year-old kid “to grow up wanting someone’s everything.”
The actress disclosed, “I say [to her], ‘You gotta wear your hair exactly the way it is. You can be Wonder Woman, but you gotta be Wonder Woman with your hair. You can be Elsa…with your hair.’”
On Instagram last June, she posted a photo of Genesis as a toddler, in a Wonder Woman costume and sporting an afro.
“She wanted to keep her ’fro. #WonderWoman! We’re ready,” the giddy mom said in the caption, in anticipation of the film starring Gal Gadot.
Kimmel’s birthday treat
“Star Wars” director JJ Abrams dropped by “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” with a one-of-a-kind birthday treat for the talk-show host: the trailer for the mock adaptation of the latter’s childhood creations, “The Terrific Ten.”
“The characters, they really spoke to me—they demanded to be brought to life,” quipped Abrams. “We spent $250 million,” the filmmaker jokingly said of the comic book that Kimmel made for himself when he was 9.
And the campy trailer, approximately three minutes and 45 seconds long, was a star-studded one. Playing the kid-designed heroes were Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston, Jon Hamm, Shaquille O’Neal, Zach Galifianakis, Will Arnett, Billy Crudup, Ty Burrell, Cousin Sal and Jason Bateman.
As for villains? A floating box of bleach played by Wanda Sykes. And a madman, played by none other than Kimmel’s pretend-adversary, Matt Damon.—OLIVER PULUMBARIT
